As an actor, I must say that an incredible performance was give by Cage in "Leaving Las Vegas". The beauty of a performance not only lies in the spectator`s belief, but also in the actor`s belief, which in turn brings the reality of the "character" to life. Cinema, being an art of symbols and sub-texts, is mastered greatly in part through the eyes of the actor. How many of us have been drunk before? Now, try it when you are sober......it is extremely difficult. The mind is in total perseption of it`s equilibrium. It`s hard to loose control. Much more so when performing. The answer is easy yet difficult, make it real within yourself. The eyes of Nicolas Cage shows the profoundness of his personality(s). Check out the romantic crazyman in "Peggy Sue Got Married", or the frustration and loss of understanding in "Birdy", Cage is a wonderful artist, and I hope you agree......
